Richard L. Gilbert, MD, MBA, to speak at Harvard University’s Eighth Annual Quality Colloquium

6/1/09 (CHARLOTTE, N.C.) – Richard L. Gilbert, M.D.,MBA, CEO of Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants, has been chosen to present at Harvard University's Eighth Annual Quality Colloquium.

Dr. Gilbert will speak about the drivers of healthcare quality by discussing Quantum Clinical Navigation System, a division of Southeast. The presentation entitled, "Can A Data-Driven Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) System Change Physician Practice to Reduce Medical Errors and Improve Outcomes?" Quantum CNS is a web based quality measurement system developed to measure patient satisfaction, operating room efficiency, practitioner performance, and quality outcomes. It measures these items by recording a fifty point checklist of predefined indicators for every patient that enters the operating room. The system, which was developed by Southeast physicians, serves more than 100,000 patients every year.

“There is a national imperative to improve quality and reduce health care costs. This has resulted in a move toward transparency and pay for performance in health care. I am excited that Harvard has invited me to describe our CQI system. By using Quantum CNS practitioners can exceed P4P benchmarks, reduce costly medical errors, and organizations can proactively increase the quality of their patient's care,” Gilbert remarked.

The Healthcare Colloquium Conference Series addresses issues of healthcare policy and practice by offering executive courses at leading educational institutions. The 2009 special edition of the Colloquium will address the issues of patient safety, healthcare reliability, teams and team training, medical education, and medical error reduction.
